DARO: The construction of the Muara Lassa Bridge, spanning 2.43 kilometres and costing over RM597 million, is set to be completed by January 19, 2025.
Currently 96 per cent finished, the project commenced on March 22, 2019, and once open early next year, it is expected to significantly enhance local mobility and spur economic growth.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo hailed the bridge as a game changer for the local community, stressing its importance in improving the quality of life for residents in Daro and surrounding areas.
“The Muara Lassa Bridge is not just a piece of infrastructure; it represents strategic development aimed at strengthening rural access and driving the local economy.
“Infrastructure projects like this are crucial in supporting Sarawak’s journey to become a developed state by 2030,” he said.
He spoke at the Stitching Ceremony for the Muara Lassa Bridge, held on Thursday.
Also present were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Daro Assemblyman, Safiee Ahmad, Acting Director of the Sarawak Public Works Department, Ir. Wisil Lichok, and Deputy Resident of Mukah Division, Shafrie Saili.
Datuk Ir. Aidel further noted that this iconic project will connect the mainland of Daro with Pulau Bruit, replacing the ferry service that has long been the primary mode of transportation in the area.
This new facility is expected to shorten daily travel times, enhance economic activities, and create more income opportunities, especially in agriculture, fisheries, and tourism.
“With the completion of the Muara Lassa Bridge, we hope that improved access and mobility will serve as a catalyst for socioeconomic transformation in Daro and Pulau Bruit, bringing long-lasting positive impacts,” Datuk Ir. Aidel remarked. -UKASnews
