DARO: The Acute Water System project in Kampung Pangtray is a strategic step by the Sarawak Government in effectively addressing water supply issues in Daro District, specifically as an interim solution pending the full implementation of the state’s long-term water supply infrastructure project.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the plant was developed using a high-tech approach and was specifically designed to improve the efficiency of the water treatment and distribution system in line with the growing needs of the population.
“The implementation of this plant proves the Sarawak Government’s commitment to providing a quick and effective solution to water supply issues, while awaiting the implementation of the long-term system.
“It acts as an additional and supporting system to the existing plants in Daro and Jemoreng,” he said when officiating the plant on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Daro Assemblyman, Safiee Ahmad expressed his appreciation to the state government for its concern and proactive measures to resolve the water supply issue in the area.
“Alhamdulillah, on behalf of the people of Daro, I would like to record my highest appreciation to the Sarawak Government, especially the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication for the approval and implementation of the water supply project in this area.
“The Acute System plant which was officiated today is a very significant short-term initiative and has had a positive impact on the local community.
“Although interim in nature, this plant increases the capacity of the existing water supply system which also includes the Daro and Jemoreng Water Treatment Plants.
“With a capacity of four million litres per day (MLD) including new elevated tanks in Panco and Badong, Daro now has a more than adequate water supply. In fact, this plant also acts as a backup system in the event of a disruption to the main system,” he said.
He added that more than 80 per cent of the old pipelines in Daro have been replaced with new ones that are more durable and have a large capacity.
For the record, a total of 12 water supply projects worth RM714.72 million have been and are being implemented by the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) in the Daro area.
Of the total, five projects have been completed involving a cost of RM55.10 million, which includes the construction of elevated tanks, construction of booster pump stations and installation of new pipelines.
Meanwhile, seven more projects are in the construction and planning phase with an estimated cost of RM659.6 million.
In addition, two more projects involving the replacement of old and dilapidated pipelines at a cost of RM1.15 million were also implemented.
Also present at the ceremony were MUTS Deputy Permanent Secretary Datu Jafri Lias, JBALB Sarawak Director, Ir. Ts. Awg Mohammad Fadillah Awg Redzuan, and Mukah Division Deputy Resident Safri Saili. -UKASnews
